The University of New Haven Dining Committee has announced that it will be hosting a series of Food Feedback Forums that will feature a conversation with Juan Dominguez, the new director of dining services. At the events, you will be able to share your feedback about the dining options on campus and learn about new initiatives we are implementing in dining services.
The events will take place on:

John is whipping up delicious smoothies for you to try, he’ll go over vitamins, minerals and the benefits of chia seeds. John will be set up right in front where we keep the hand fruit stand, say hi!
That’s right, it’s free candy time BUT the only way to get it is if you take a University Dining survey at either the Marketplace or Food On Demand. We promise the survey is quick so don’t worry! They go from 11am-2:30pm then 5pm-7:30pm, see you then!
University Dining is always trying to provide healthy options so with that, WE HAVE A NEW JUICER! NrGize Cafe will now be serving fresh pressed juice in addition to our popular smoothie line. Today at NrGize, will be hosting a tasting from 2-4 with free samples of our soon to be out line of fresh pressed juice. Come while supplies last and get your juice on!
It’s National CheeseBurger Day! Sometime in 1926, Lionel Sternberger invented the cheeseburger in Pasadena, California at his fathers sandwich shop called the “Rite Spot” (National today). As usual we will be grilling fresh cheeseburgers and hamburgers at the Beach Grill in the Marketplace! To kick things up a notch we will be serving a very special burger at Food on Demand, the Taco Burger! It has avocado spread, lettuce, tomato, pico de gallo, sour cream and provolone cheese served on a kaiser roll. To tie it all together it comes with a side of fries to dip in ketchup, mustard or what ever you’re into. let’s goooooooo!
I started this experiment to see what it was like to be a part of a group of people on campus with a not so popular lifestyle. How would being vegan on campus impact me? Would it be hard? Would I starve? I didn’t know what to expect really but I’m so glad I did it. I feel connected to you all now and I can really appreciate all your concerns on a deeper level because well, I went through it too. I had to ask questions and feel like a burden at some points, take time to read labels and make a conscious decision not to give up but uphold the commitment I made to myself and to all of you.
Learning how to make meals by taking bits and pieces from stations was really fun. I took vegan cheese and our soy butter at MyZone, added it to the grits we serve in the Marketplace, added some sautéed vegetables from the vegan/veg station and made myself a morning breakfast bowl! It was great. The vegan veg station itself is fun and the food taste great but feeling limited to one station is not fun, I had to be creative. Thats when I went to FoD, they have VEGAN CHICKEN NUGGETS! They also have a vegan stir fry and vegan tortellini. While we do have plenty of options across campus, we could do more and we will do more.
I really want to thank everyone for keeping up with me and watching the instagram stories. To my fellow vegans, I’m with you and I understand you. I made the decision to keep up this lifestyle until the day I no longer feel the need to, could be tomorrow or next year. Thanks!

You can relax, it’s just for me…I’m going vegan. There is a large number of students on our campus that are vegan and have a meal plan. They may be finding it hard to navigate this lifestyle with our dining options, so I want to get first hand look into this issue. For the next week (maybe longer depending on how it goes) I will actively be a vegan. I will maneuver through this campus for most of my meals starting with this cup of coffee that has almond milk in it. If you have any hacks, recipes, or advice let me know. I will be starting a discussion on the topic at 11am with a student, see the conversation on our Instagram story!
